Are most of these crusing spots closing down because of political pressure or because of financial issues?

I know some got shut down for more or less political reasons in the past, like a couple in the Austin area that got shut down because they targeted the owner and eventually busted him for some kind of tax issues or something.  The other ones lately it seems like it is more due to financial problems.  It seems like the amount of cruising is way down since covid.  Places that used to be busy all the time are now much more hit or miss.  Even the free scene, parks, bathrooms, etc., seems like it is less busy than it used to be.

I'm not sure what is going on, because it doesn't seem to make sense as much as there is more acceptance and with PrEP and whatnot it seems like there should be more cruising happening and not less.

Are people only meeting up through apps now?  I must not be on the right ones because I've tried a bunch of them and they seem to be less active and more full of fakes, flakes and scammers than ever.

I really wish I had money to invest in starting a new adult bookstore, spa, sauna, etc.  Seems like it should be a lucrative business if it is done right.  So many of the places out there don't really give people what they want.

There were 2 clubs that I ranked best in the world.  Man’s Country in Chicago and Club 80 in Melbourne.

i flew to Chicago 6-8 times a year with the only plan being a long weekend at Man’s Country.  And I headed to Melbourne once a year to visit Club 80.

i have incredible memories of both places.  I still jerk off to some of the men I met in both clubs!

Back in the 1990's when I lived in Dallas, there were a number of bookstores that I frequented along Harry Hines (my favorite was on Mockingbird), numerous parks, several malls, and several spots on the SMU campus. Other than making connections at DFW, I haven't been to Dallas in 25 years so I'm sure my info would be way out of date. I wish I had worked up the courage to try one of the bathhouses while I was living there, but I was able to find plenty of ass to fuck and get mine fucked occasionally without.

For baths, I agree completely.  I've been to baths all over, and while each had at least something interesting to offer, nothing beat Renslow's fuckjoints. 

I still have the sign (announcing the dress code) that was on the overhead  wall half-way down the stairwell leading to the basement at the Gold Coast, 501 N Clark - the old, original, and fan-fukkin-tastic iteration of that definitive Leatherbar.

I miss Chuck.  I never knew him well.  But he always was friendly to me.
