I have purchased, worn and lost so many jockstraps over the years I have lost count. I never thought much about it, I have worn them under my clothes if I were going to an organized sex party at a hotel or private residence. It usually was just something to have on under my pants, that would come off easily. I started out wearing the basic white jock strap you wore in high school. It wasn't until I found out about a company called "Freshpair" that had all types of jocks that I really became addicted to wearing them.
