First Time Bathhouse

Hey,

I've wanted to go to a bathhouse for a while and I finally plan on doing so, but I have a few questions:

1) What bathhouse would you recommend to a youngish first timer.

2) what day and time do you recommend going.

3) What should I bring, what shouldn't I bring.

4) what etiquette do I need to know.

5) anything you recommend doing to make me feel more comfortable

6) are there risks/dangers I should look out for.

Thanks in advance!

What bathhouse would you recommend to a youngish first timer.

The only ones currently open i have been to in London are Lockerroom and Sailors and tbh most have more older guys than young guys. So you need to be open minded about that. Vault, which is a fuck-space but not a sauna, probably gets more younger guys. I dont know about other places.

what day and time do you recommend going.

Lockerroom is busy at weekends in the daytime

What should I bring, what shouldn't I bring.

Just bring yourself and poppers if you use them. They provide showers, soap, towels, water to drink. If you are neurotic about being barefoot, bring flip-flops

what etiquette do I need to know.

wander around, be friendly, if somebody touches your arse and you are not interested then gently push their hand away. If you want to suck a guys cock, drop to your knees and guide it into your mouth. If he is not interested he will walk away. It is acceptable to fuck/get fucked in the open with guys watching or privately in a cubicle. If two guys are having sex and you want to join in, move up close and gently get involved, if they dont want you they will gently push you away. Take the hint, dont be a pest.

anything you recommend doing to make me feel more comfortable

Have a shower as soon as you arrive and one or two more while you are there. Keep away from booze and chems before you go there, just relax and be yourself. Don't try to engage guys in conversation about politics or house prices or other irrelevant bollocks. Focus on the naked bodies.

are there risks/dangers I should look out for.

Look where you are going - they are poorly lit and have lots of stairs and it is easy to go arse over tit.

That aside, the main risk is being disappointed: thinking that 25 hunks will all have mind-blowing sex with you over an 8 hour period and it will change your life for ever, or thinking you are going to meet your new husband there. Although you are pretty certain to meet somebody else's husband. Enjoy him, so he can go home to husband/wife a happy man

All good advice in the above post.

As well as Locker Room & Sailors (two establishments I know well) pre & post lockdown, there is also Pleasuredrome (not been since lockdown) and I believe there is quite a twink crowd at Sweatbox (never been).

In my experience generally Monday's are the quietest (unless there is a theme day such as Naked Day, Bears Night etc), although any day can be hit and miss and sometimes quiet can be good in that I mean that guys get down to it rather than being spoilt for choice on busy days and waiting it out for the next best thing and ending up disappointed.

Go with a carefree attitude of what will be will be and you can't go far wrong.

In London, Pleasuredrome and Sweatbox are probably best suited to your needs.  They’re the largest ones, and although they cater to all ages, they tend to be more popular with the younger crowd (particularly Sweatbox).  Some of the others, like Locker Room and Sailors, seem to attract a loyal following of (usually) older regulars, which can give them a great ‘community’ vibe, but which might not be what you are looking for.  Pleasuredrome and Sweatbox serve a more transient population, which means you won’t feel so out of place as you might do in a small local sauna.

I just prefer to do this at home before I head out.  My thought is that no one wants to see or hear this being done at the venue of choice.  I don't think most places have spaces for it anyway, though.

Thank you so much!!! This helps a lot.

What's the difference between a bathhouse/sauna/fuck-space is it the facilities? Sauna will have jacuzzi etc, "fuck-space" won't?

Yeah. A sauna will have a steam room and a dry heat room, and private cubicles. There will be no alcohol. It might have a jacuzzi: Sailors does, Locker room doesnt. Vault 139 is like an ordinary bar but with lots of space where guys cruise and have sex, and depending when you go everybody is naked or nearly so. The saunas have showers, towels etc and guys wander round just wearing the towels. They tend to be constructed by dodgy builders from old shops and basements and to look really shabby - but they are licensed so they have to keep the place clean and safe. Pleasuredome is posher, and used to draw a younger crowd, but its expensive and you have to pay to use the private cabins.  Actually the saunas all have quite steep entrance fees because they dont have bars so they have to make money on the door. If you are unlucky there may not be many guys there. But i have also been and within 5 minutes had a cock up my arse and another in my mouth - and i am not exactly a pretty young thing, wheres they guys fucking me were young and fit and hung. If you are really only into porn stars and are offended by the sight of an older mans body, you might not be happy in a sauna

London sauanas dont have douche facilities as far as i know. In other coutries sauans are often bigger and better equipped.

It’s an endless source of irritation to me that UK saunas don’t have douching facilities, while continental ones do.  Sweatbox installed some in its recent refurb, but I’m not sure if they are currently working.

I usually clean out before I leave home, but because I have to travel quite far to get to a sauna, I always take a bulb douche with me for a quick ‘refresh’ in one of the toilet cubicles when I arrive.  Imodium helps.

That’s similar to me - have to drive an hour or so to get to my nearest sauna in Glasgow - always thoroughly douche before I go and rely on Imodium (which works really well)

Same here in Canada. It's annoying to see a sauna with slings but no decent place to cleanup.

I think that it's even bad for business because guys who like having a clean hole can't go directly to the sauna from work or meeting.  My local sauna offers a room with a sling for hard pounding but the toilets really bad. The only exception is Steamworks in Toronto which has nice toilets with a water attachment.

I'm coming late to this but I just wanted to add: there's a whole cruising 'language' in places like saunas that you have to learn so you can indicate interest or recognise someone is indicating it to you: people don't tend to walk up to each other and say "Hi, do you want to have sex?" (though that did happen to me a couple of times...)

If i wanted to find someone in a sauna I'd often find a free cubicle, leave the door open, maybe start stroking my cock and taking it out from under my towel, and trying to make prolonged eye contact with guys walking by that I liked (then a nod or smile to act as an invitation). Avoiding eye contact is a definite way of showing no interest. Touching your cock and balls lightly through your towel in the communal areas is also something that some guys do.

are you picky about who fucks you and whose load you take? If not, the darkroom is your friend.

Something I've also found here in Dublin, where there's also a pretty good sauna, is that some guys, for whatever reason (bi + repressed) can only let themselves have sex in the dimly lit areas like the steam room or dark room. I've had some super hot lads just by keeping my eyes open when in those areas.

Have fun! It's been a few years since I lived in London but Pleasuredrome was always a good bet and a good mix of different types of guys.

I think @fatbottom gives really good reply. I’d tend to agree with @RawUK that my experience of sweatbox was that it tended to be a younger, twinkier crowd. Pleasuredrome was more varied. Comments have been made elsewhere about it being in a slightly rougher part of London but I never felt threatened in that area even late at night. The proximity to Waterloo station is handy. I don’t know what has reopened post-lockdown. I know one of the saunas up here  didn’t survive it.
