    I'd say right now, we don't know enough or have enough data to know if they got it while on PrEP, got it just before starting, or if there is another factor(s) (missed doses, IV drug use, etc.) involved. Regardless, nothing is full proof so there are always risks no matter what. To expect PrEP to be 100% effective is completely foolish. However, it is still far safer than random hookups with guys without any protection.

    I've always assumed that a lot of the "neg for neg only" are likely new to it all so they're not experienced or knowledgeable enough to know the facts about barebacking. I've always tried to impart a little knowledge to newbie, especially about the risk and now about PrEP. Many will probably change their profiles to soon enough to looking for "undetectable" once they realize that undetectable guys are low risk (of course if that's only true if they really are undetectable).

    It could be someone just bullshiting, a lie of the anti-PrEP/anti-bareback crowd, or it could be true. Nothing is 100% certain and effective. While PrEP greatly reduces the risk, I'm sure every expert will say there is always the possibility, however slight, of still being pozzed. I'm on PrEP and have been taking poz loads since being on it, and am still neg. However, I accept that there is always that slight chance, but it is probably far, far less than playing with random guys without being on PrEP.

    I was going to say that, but I didn't want it to come across the wrong way. Regardless of where it is, homosexuality tends to be less accepted among African Americans than the popuation as a whole. Just remember, Prop. 8 passed in California in 2008 for one reason, the extremely large turnout in the AA community to vote for Obama. They voted for Prop. 8 in overwhelming numbers. California isn't known for being a conservative state. Well, Grady is still in use in The Walking Dead.

    It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the people by age, race, gender, income level, and sexual orientation to see if a certain group(s) is more affected than others. Also, how many of them are also IV drug users? With a breakdown, it might explain the numbers to some degree. And is this specific to Atlanta, or are the stats similar in other large cities?

    Maybe, but don't assume that's a certainty. I have friend who is on PrEP and only plays safe, mostly because he is married and his wife is okay with him hooking up as long as he doesn't fuck raw. For him, PrEP is about keeping her safe more than him. He stays true to that promise even though he knows I want to breed him so bad. However, I respect his decision; can't fault the guy for being honest with his wife.

    No idea off the top of my head since my insurance covers almost all of it. I'm sure there are others here who know more about the costs. Do your parents have access to where you live when you're not there?

    While probably not very likely, it might be available through your college's clinic, if it has one. If not, you'd need to go see a doctor to get a prescription. That said, since you're over 18, a doctor cannot tell your parents about anything health related unless you give approval for him to do so as it would be a major HIPAA violation. Not sure if they could find out if you use their insurance, but I suspect that isn't likely as it would also be a HIPAA violation. If you don't want to leave any real trace, then you'd have to pay cash for it. There are programs to get PrEP at reduced cost.

    I think he's saying what is pretty much required for him to say. I've gotten the same safe-sex lecture more than once from my doctors over the years. Not much different than a doctor telling a patient to eat right and exercise. It's simply advice. I'd rather hear it because it means my doctor cares enough about my health to mention it, even if he knows I don't agree.
