I reckon a lot of hooking up on these sites and apps depends on how 'confident' or 'outgoing' a person is, which probably goes a long way to explain the long drought of any form of human contact for me for the past couple of years. Combine that with living in a metropolitan area where there is a huge choice of men and cocks available, then I suspect there is a lot of 'passing on by' as the next profile will probably be hotter. Then of course the few that do message tend to either live so far away that it's not gonna happen, or if they are relatively local they want it there and then; alas I can't just stop working in the middle of the day to go for an ungratifying fumble. Grindr is about all we anyone is familiar with. I used to find most of my sex partners via Craigslist. When I planned breed & seed parties, most of the guys came from Craigslist. 
Doublelist is ok, but nothing close to the responses that I used to get from CL.

I recently got banned from Grindr  unsure why but in general the guys around me wouldn't meet only interested in what you looked like . Although internet apps are by their nature most tend to be stronger in some countries than others. For that reason it may help if travelling internationally to have a second app. Although I prefer to visit real world saunas when travelling I do use two apps: Grindr and BBRTS. craigslist was my main source. it was easy to say exactly what you wanted and what the scene would look like. and within minutes 20-50 horny guys want the location. and where they were coming from didnt matter a bit to me. some guys drove 45-60 minutes and it didnt even matter cuz they were hot and down for action.
