My experience has been that people are VERY encouraging when you post stories because they're hungry pigs. 🙂 If they're mean or give you unhelpful feedback just try to let it go. Sometimes people have GOOD feedback though, so try to be open to that. I've found that people can sometimes nudge something in your brain that you didn't know was there or make you go "oh, I hadn't thought of it that way." My suggestion would be to keep stories shorter and don't make them open ended, that can start to feel overwhelming and make you not want to come back to it. If you have an idea at the beginning how long it will be, setting that expectation can help...just say "I think this will be 5-6 parts." Then people aren't posting "will there be more, please?" Over and over. Try to figure out where you want it to end up, but sometimes the characters will take you somewhere you didn't expect, so be open to that, too. The first stories I posted were on Nifty.org (they're all here now) and I'm STILL friends with one of the guys who emailed me from that first story! I'm glad. I want to reiterate to everyone. PLEASE.....don't neglect these diagnostic tests, EVEN the annoying ones like colonoscopies and mammograms. I'm here because of one of them.
