Does Montreal still have a healthy bathhouse scene? Obviously it’s not USA, but I still view it as kind of East Coast. Yes, there are- generally they seem to be referred to as “swingers’ clubs”, which seems to make them more acceptable. The basement floor of the CITA centre in Gran Canaria is full of them. But it seems that the number of males attending far outweighs the number of females, to the point where entrance is usually free to women, while the men have to pay. I think that says quite a lot.

For drinks, you just buy tokens in the reception area, and then exchange these for what you want at the various bars and drink stations around the club (and there are lots of them). There were helpful staff everywhere, which is why I guess it all worked so smoothly, and one of the reasons you pay €39. The venue itself is amazing. It’s an old mint (as in money manufacturing plant) and it’s huge. It’s spread out over 2 floors. On the first (ground) floor is the reception, coat check, bars, dance space, VIP area and a large outside area which functions as a sort of beer garden, which was great given it was a hot night. And in the basement are the play areas, which is really what everyone is interested in. It’s very hard to describe: it’s a true maze, with corridors, rooms, dead ends, more bars, more dance spaces, and random staircases leading nowhere- it’s very easy to get lost and I did several times. And hoards of men everywhere, representing every fetish you can think of, from naked to full leather and everything in between. Sex is happening all over, but seems to be divided somewhat into rooms/zones. There’s a fisting zone, a piss zone, a cumdump zone (where I naturally gravitated to), an oral zone, sling rooms, shower rooms, odd rooms with random bits of stuff in- whatever you can think of, it was there somewhere. Of course, it’s not just sex- there are loads of guys standing round drinking, socializing, dancing- but it’s all kind of mixed up together, which is great. The Lab is great too, but PIG is on a whole different level.

Yes, Prinzknecht is still there and thriving- seems to be the at the very heart of all things Folsom. It was absolutely packed last night for the final blast. Good darkroom too in the basement. I’m planing on going to Horsefair in the 9th too. If I were you, I would choose the Lab over the Boiler: don’t worry about being rejected- I was put off by stories like that too, but I’ve been a few times and it seems pretty inclusive. It has the potential to be very busy on the 8th as it’s Folsom, so you might need to queue much longer… On the other hand, it’s running up against a big party on that night (Biohazard), which might draw away a few punters- but Berlin will be packed, so I expect it will even itself out. Why not try the Boiler Saturday daytime if you want to see it? It’s an amazing sauna, but I don’t like it personally, as it was the only place in Berlin where I encountered ‘attitude’ from the “I’m-too-beautiful-to-have-sex-with-anyone” crowd…

I don’t think it is possible to ‘buy’ Prep in either of these locations, as it is prescribed medication. And to get a prescription, you would generally have to be registered with a sexual health clinic. I travelled to Maspalomas last winter, and my luggage was stolen off the bus on arrival. Stupidly, I’d packed my Prep in my luggage rather than keeping it on me, so suddenly found myself in the position of needing to source some. It was not possible to do this through official channels, so I ended up begging some off some kind fellow travellers using Grindr… You could always buy some through an online pharmacy if you have an address they could be delivered to? I used to do this before Prep became available in the UK on the NHS…

I came to the same conclusion having stayed at the Axel in Gran Canaria- it’s a gimmick. I tried it once, and had no luck, so I wandered the hallways to see if anyone else was doing better- they weren’t. In fact, during my entire 10 day stay, I didn’t see anyone using the “Please disturb” sign at all. Possibly it’s different during Pride, etc, but in ordinary times it’s a waste of time, and not a reason to choose Axel over other hotels. Most hotels in GC (including Axel) seem to positively discourage the open/unlocked door thing, with 24-hour receptionists and keycards, etc, which generally limits your pool of men to other guests staying in the same hotel. And to be fair, there’s not much need for it when there are so many clubs and bars where you can bend over and whore yourself out all night.

Hey @120DaysofSodom, I’ll be in Berlin on 01-Sep, and am planning to go to the Lab. It’s their dance night, and I haven’t been to one of those before… I have a couple of questions: 1) I’m not into dance so much, but very much into the sex side of things at the Lab- is there still plenty of that going on during these events, or is the focus more on dance? 2) Although their website says there is no dress code, what do most guys wear? Would I be okay in a jock/harness, etc? Advice appreciated!
