It is interesting that JFK would be considered a conservative by today's communist and socialist Democrats lol

Kennedy was a moderate slightly left leaning president nearly six decades ago. I would hope that the definition of both Democrat and Republican had changed since then.

You are who you hang with - and when the conservative thought leaders of today are cool with putting children in cages, stealing them from their parents and adopting them out to white Christians, and letting immigrants die of curable diseases while they await deportation hearings - I could give two flying fucks about how you feel about taxes and medicare.

White, conservative, gay men look at the world in that order. If they're wealthy they'll most likely be shielded from the worst that conservatism, currently, offers. They can get married out of country - they can pay for a will for their estate. They have money for healthcare and so they don't need their partners benefits. As long as they aren't, "Shoving their lifestyle," in anyones face they think everything will be fine.

Meanwhile, US charities founded and run by conservatives support bills, tax free, in countries like Uganda that make legal to just murder a gay person. The president supports bills in the supreme court that allow you to fire people for being gay. And y'all somehow think that being fiscally 'conservative,' and having a stance on immigrant is the way to go...

While being absolutely blind to the fact that the people who hate the poors, and immigrants, and all the people you've been trained to hate too --- fucking hate your guts too.

I don’t know how anyone can be conservative and gay.   Political conservatives who claim to be for fiscal matters only, will usually fall lockstep in with social conservatives when voting on social issues.    And as far as fiscal conservatism goes, The rich and the Corporatists will always come first and minorities including black, Hispanic, and lgbtq will always pay the price to ensure that corporate greed flourishes

I'm too old and well off to not be fiscally conservative.  I'd have to be poor or incredibly rich to afford to be a liberal.

Not really - you just need to be willing to care about everyone's needs and best interests and not put your own above everyone else's. You don't have to fuck people over to live.

I never met him myself but my (female) flatmates had a classmate they called the "cottaging fascist".  Fascist was probably an exaggeration, cottaging certainly wasn't.  He would tell them all the details as they ate their formal dinners.

Does it make much difference in the end?  Unless Im missing something, we all have a roof over our heads - and in fact live more comfortably than people have done ever. More fucks and less chance of being killed off in some war than pretty much anyone ever.   It's not all bad.  Mind you, Trump v Biden isn't one I envy you.   I'd rather have Xi Jinping (and I'd vote for him too...)

You obviously know nothing about real conservatives .

The problem is that there are approximately zero "real conservatives" left, at least in our national government.

I consider "real conservatives" to be:

-people who value society and the support systems it provides, even if that means taxing people who luck out and make it rich at a significantly higher level than everyday people in order to maintain that society.

-people who recognize that the world will always be undergoing change, and that it makes more sense to plan for that change and be prepared to adapt to it, even if that means ceding power to groups other than straight white Christian men.

-people who realize that natural resources are finite, including clean air and water, and that we must conserve, rather than always exploit, our natural resources so that they will fill our needs long into the future, even if that means some regions will have untapped potential for now.

There's a lot more, but that's what conservatism means to me. It doesn't mean "cut government down to the size we can drown it in a bathtub."

Economic conservatism? Not contradictory. Social cons.? Maybe.

As a liberal, I like that there are some LGBT conservatives, they help us move the overton window a little to the left 😉

Except they don't. LGBT conservatives always, always, always vote against LGBT issues when the conservative leadership so demands. It's particularly instructive that they're almost always, without exception, white non-Hispanic men. Because "LGBT conservative" basically translates to "I promise not to publicly do anything even mildly embarrassing to the straight white Christian men and women who make up the party, and to vote for every ill-advised tax break and corporate giveaway, as long as I get to keep all the privileges I have for being a white man with the ability to pass."
