An important difference nowadays, though, is that many guys, top and bottom, will refuse condom use. So, sadly, the comparison of PrEP or nothing probably is valid in many situations. I've never had anyone refuse because I take PrEP. Thankfully! 🙏

It works fine! I take prep on demand and wenn i am very active as bottom daily. In period i am not active i stop prep. My only concern are the other STD's. I heard today i got anal gonnorea. I got my cefrtriaxon shot, so thats will solve the gonnorea but i cant deal with this easy. Most guys i now just dont botter and get their antibiotics and they start getting bred again (some do not wait 1 week before getting bred again). But that is everyones own decision and responsibility. You guys have sone thoughts ideas?

Earlier this year I caught gono (throat) and didn't have any sex from when I got tested to seven days after treatment. Since my positive test and treatment were all handled through online services, my local county health department contacted me and asked for me to come in to retest to make sure it had been cured. I did and it was.

I informed all of my regular partners when I found out and they all got tested and were negative for it.

Im on Prep and still neg.  The way I see it is I totally understand and accept that I may contract something.  But  i have decided its worth it.  I take prep and doxy whatever happens from there on is tomorrows problem for tomorrows me

I took on demand prep this week - starting last saturday (two pills). I then took one pill Sunday, monday and Tuesday, taking 3 loads (one poz) on Monday and Tuesday). I forgot to take a pill on Wednesday and Thursday but took one Friday.

 

what is the likelihood that the prep  won’t have been effective?

They don't do studies on things like this.

What we CAN say is that this kind of dosing is not as effective as actually following the instructions.

You said you started with 2 pills on Saturday but that you didn't take a load until Monday. That was the first mistake: the double dose should be taken between 2 and 12 hours before sex. If you take them a day or two beforehand, it's basically useless. The point is to have a HIGH level of the medication in your system - a double dose that hasn't filtered out yet - at the time you have sex. That double dose should have been taken on Monday, not Saturday. 

You need to then continue taking a single dose daily - as close to 24 hours after sex as possible - for each day until two days AFTER the last load. That means since you took loads on Monday and Tuesday, you should have taken pills on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Between the low-level in your system Monday (because you took the double dose 2 days early, and only single doses Sunday and Monday), and then skipping two more days, you've basically gotten the least amount of protection possible using more than the recommended number of pills.

Bear in mind that even with zero PrEP, infection is not guaranteed. There are many factors that go into determining the actual risk of any particular sex act. About the most we can say is that this "event" was probably closer to the "zero" protection end of the spectrum than the "fully protected" end.

It’s the same likelihood that you didn’t really enjoy the raw sex. Once you catch something from another guy, if you’re going to stay in play, get it treated and keep pulling off their rubbers.  Safe sex is just as good as raw sex, is a lie like Donald Trumpis an excellent leader and should be in office again. In my own personal experience, PrEP most likely kept me from getting pozzed even though I repeatedly got fucked by someone who who had been poz for at least 5 years and hadn't gone on meds due to lack of available assistance.  Although I continued testing neg, he did manage to give me syphilis so I still had to get treated for that.
