I would agree that paying attention (and voting for) the down ballot races is very important as we are seeing in far too many places the most local elections can be truly important even if you don’t have kids - the school board will shape how the next generation thinks - they control what (and how) subjects are taught and what books are in the library and your state reps and senators…. While the democrats were busy fixating solely on winning the presidency- tge republicans were quietly winning state rep races - who then controlled tge re-districting ensuring they would then win the majority of congressional raves no matter what percentage of the state wide vote they got (just look at Wisconsin) So yes - please learn about and vote for every position- no matter how seemingly insignificant

Which is why I say THE most important thing anyone on here can do, if they are going to be sexually active and not use condoms - is to have a Dr that you trust that you can be totally honest with- so that they know what to look for and what tests to run when you go in for an appointment and so that they know their stuff (like the difference between the multiple kinds of warts) and what they should be screening for based on previous history. Really sorry to hear the news i had a nasty case back in my youth- and not having insurance to pay for surgery I had to do out patient- which as it was a nasty case took about 2-1/2 years - every other week to have them burned off- (strangely though I think they saved my life as I got them just at the beginning of AIDS - and by the time I was “all clear” condoms were being used (so I didn’t get AIDs until after the cocktail had been discovered) So my advice is make sure you have a dr that a) you know, trust, and can be completely honest with b) is experienced and knows what they are talking about and what treatments would be best for you c) once you are all clear - ask about how often you should get a Pap smear…. Yes guys should get them too if tge have had warts as they are a great detector of potential cancer And don’t beat yourself up over this—- it happens hope it is not too bad a case and that you are up and about soon good luck and yes - for everyone else… if you are lucky enough not to have had anything yet - talk to your dr about what vaccines you might be eligible for (as most drs - unless asked- stop offering them to patients once they are out of their teens

The main thing is to make sure you have a good primary care physician that a) knows their stuff b) that you can be very open and honest with about who you are and what “risky” behaviors you may have I have hpv - have had it for a long time - and was one of the first at my clinic to get an anal Pap smear- every so often it comes back “abnormal” and I have to go to the specialist- who puts in the speculum and sends her camera in and then takes biopsies of anything that looks suspicious (not exactly fun but not that painful) and I keep going back to her every 6months until I get the “all clear” - which I did my last visit so at my annual in July I will go back to getting Pap smears until that comes back “abnormal” - then I’ll go back to tge specialist Rinse and repeat- as the say Hopefully- the specialist will catch anything before it gets out of control- I gather that it is not considered to be too fast growing a cancer- so long as you get it in time just another reason I am so grateful to live in Boston- where we have Fenway Health (a community health center specializing in Gay and Lesbian health) and all the specialty drs in the city so OP - sorry- long preamble to if you trust your drs - if they are not suddenly bringing you in for a follow up tomorrow- having to wait for your next appointment is probably a good sign but just make sure to follow up and be vigilant Good luck
