According to the googler, the population of Norway is around 5.5 million, while the population of the US is around 340 million. That would suggest that a much greater percentage of the population in the US is (at least at present) not productive relative to the population than in Norway. In your view, why would that be the case (if it is)? Some would say the US has far more indolent citizens than your fine country, but one of the aggravating factors is the tremendous variance of cultures in the US. Do you know what the percentage is of recent (say, within 40, 50 years) of immigrants (non native-born Norwegians) that are contributing members of society (meaning, working, paying taxes, etc).? More bluntly, in the US there may well be a greater percentage of citizens who, for one reason or another, are not contributing members, but rather immigrants that have come to the US to escape more egregious strictures in their native countries, and thus would wind up in the cycle of recurring hardship.

I've occasionally wished I were versatile, but I'm just not. Can't help it - I'm just not. So, I remain happy with what I do best.

Here's how (I think) it works: When you're an active member - meaning participating in the discourse - you "earn" the right to use the little doo-dads to upvote, like, say 'thanks', etc. I assume it's to discourage those of ill will, but I don't know that. Keep commenting, posting your own content, and it'll happen sooner than you think, so keep responding to various threads of conversation, and presto - you'll have all the privileges available too.

Back then, RR was the very best breedbar around. You may recall the "patio bar", which is actually outside, covered by tarps in the event of rain. Back when you remember it, after around 10pm it was so full of guys fucking each other you couldn't walk through that area. Guys would have to wait for a guy to leave and try to grab that spot. If you had to take a piss, god help you if there wasn't a piss-guy within reach. The later at night it was, the more crammed full of guys it got. There was (still is, for that matter) also a pool table adjacent to the main bar in front, which was covered at night with a sheet of plywood, Bottoms would line up - shoulder to shoulder - all around the pool table, with the Tops crammed in behind them, also all around the pool table. I remember one night, a rather "heavy-set" guy trying to squeeze himself into the area around the table, and being rather rudely told he would displace too many slimmer Tops busy fucking holds. Then, after closing (when guys had to leave RR), they'd go behind a used furniture store on the corner, and keep going all night long. At the time, I had a dog, and we'd have our morning walk fairly early - and sometimes there were still a decent number of guys fucking each other. Of course, that corner was on our (the dog and I) morning "walk" route, and occasionally a guy would "fall in" next to me, following me home, if I wanted. Generally, I've never been much of a "morning man", but .... occasionally .... well, you get the scenario. Those days are long gone now, but I'm glad I got to experience it. My barber insists that currently, there's a commercial building across the street from RR where guys go behind the building and breed, but there are tall metal fences in front of every building over there, and they only open during regular business hours. Tangentially though, I do find evidence of filthy goings-on in my front yard occasionally. I have those thick, double-paned windows, so the only way I'd hear anything is if I left them open ... which I don't; the A/C is costly enough to run. Those days are long gone now, but I'm happy I got to experience it.

Sadly, the operative word in the above phrase is "years ago". Ramrod has faded in the celebratory breeding arena, one the Eagle (a few blocks up Wilton Manors Dr) opened. It's still a fun bar, but the "ups & extras" are no more, other than an occasional hookup in the backbar. Apparently, in the wee hours there's still some action - 2: am'ish, - but that's only on weekends when guys don't have to get up and go to work in the morning. RR used to be jammed to the rafters with men breeding each other, from evening until closing. Eagle isn't all that far - maybe a dozen blocks north, first building on 6th Ave - and they do have a "dress code", however there is still action available for non-Leathermen. Of course, there's always Slammer too ...

Agreed. And, it's really a confounding character-flaw to analyze. How is it that some guy - any guy - gets that kind of mindset? The only potential answer I can figure out is, he was thoroughly spoiled as a little kid, and has never outgrown that emotional rot.

This in a most interesting development re: T & the Ukraine. Supposedly, T was going to speak to Putin today about furnishing long-distance missiles, which could easily reach Moscow and well beyond. While no one wants an expanded war, when an intractable dictator is facing the prospect of his capital being hit by missiles, as well as oil refineries, all kinds of infrastructure, he may well pause to think it over. Also, the Western nations are going after those nations that buy huge amounts of crude oil as well as refined oil. That could really kick the Russians in the balls. But, until China begins to withdraw it's support of Russia, the trouble will likely continue. China is the "big boy" actor in keeping Russian expansion running. on another note, this coming Saturday is No Kings Demonstration day. Please consider doing at least something to resist.

Welll ... no - there are a number of "seed-y" bars/baths/fuckjoints around here, and they all seem to be doing great (except RR). Business always picks up this time of year, when the snowbirds fly South for the winter, so there's a notable increase in traffic, but that's always the case. It's most noticeable just after Thanksgiving.

I definitely consider myself part of "the community". It will come as no surprise to some that I am quite active politically, attend local protests (there are many in the area, some numbering in the high hundreds of protesters, some numbering in mere dozens. I also belong to a gay political organization; we knock on doors, sign up new voters, send out "mailers", make phone calls, make decisions on which local candidates we will support - which are based on what the candidates (for local office) have to say when the come to address our group - and many do. It's not a burden, it's not a chore, but it is a duty for citizens that are politically "aware" to participate in some measure of activism, to the extent they can. That said, anyone that cares about politics, where the country is, where it's heading, should do what they can to participate in the process. Every citizen/prospective citizen/would-be citizen has a voice, and needs to use it now.
