Sweatbox isn’t much good for group fun either- it used to be, but they removed all the group play areas. Saunas seem to actively discourage group action these days- I think it must how they are licensed/regulated by the ‘authorities’, rather than deliberate prudishness on their own part. -

It depends what night you go. If it’s clothed, then yes, you can keep your phone on you. But if it’s underwear or naked, then realistically you have to put your phone away with your clothes in the coat check. I think you can give your phone to the bar staff to look after behind the bar, but I’ve never done this. Worth mentioning, though, that you are only permitted to use your phone in the bar area, and not in any of the back (cruising) areas.

Hi @VersGuyAnon, if you’re going to come up from Brighton on a Sunday, you should definitely do SBN first, as that peaks quite early (3:00pm to 6:00pm), and then maybe do Vault afterwards. Not sure how busy Vault is on a Sunday evening, but it won’t beat SBN on a Sunday afternoon. Best night for Vault without a doubt is Thursday, followed by Monday (both naked nights). Saturdays can be good (all or nothing), though most guys on Saturdays remain clothed, and tend to be a little more reticent than on naked nights- a lot of them just want sucking. Basically, it seems that the less clothes guys wear, the raunchier they are: so pick naked or underwear sessions if your looking to take multiple raw loads.

I think they’re being careful not to name specific events. As far as I’m aware, one was Darklands fetish weekend in Antwerp (May 3-5th) and the other was Maspalomas Pride in Gran Canaria (May 4th-15th).

Not sure at this point we can say this is a disease specific to barebacking, but I would think that’s unlikely. It looks as though it’s spread by close body contact with the rash/lesions that can appear anywhere on the body, rather than something spread through semen. So it’s sex rather than bareback sex that appears to be spreading it right now, though contaminated items such as towels might also be in the frame (in the Madrid sauna outbreak, at least).

There was a good number of men there, maybe 100-150, pretty evenly split between mares and stallions. There just wasn’t the same sexual energy as there was the first time I went- it never seemed to get going in quite the same way. I blame the tops, of course: there seemed to be a lot of hanging back, and a lot of guys seemed more interested in watching what was going on, rather than joining in. First time I went, just listening to the sound of all the wild fucking going on around me was pretty hot- this time is was much more muted. There’s also quite a bit of waiting around (like an hour) while the organizers set everything up, particularly for the mares. It’s on again this weekend- anyone going?

I went to the last one, and let me assure you, there is no strict door policy regarding age, looks or body type. If they put something like that on their website, it’s simply an aspirational marketing ploy. Presumably they think they’ll get more guys showing up to the event if everyone thinks it’s going to be full of fit muscular types, etc. The guys that run it are actually very friendly, and it’s definitely an ‘attitude free’ zone, like most of Jamie HP’s events. The flip side of this relaxed approach is that it’s not very well organized, and the rules aren’t really enforced at all. It soon degenerates into a general orgy, with hoods removed, mares fucking mares and stallions fucking stallions. Having said that, I found the first hour or so very hot- a massive fuck fest, with loads of sexual energy. Inevitably that starts to fade, though- and after a couple of hours the party is more or less over, so don’t expect a long evening. As far as condoms are concerned, mares have a choice of white or red hoods- white for condoms, red for raw. Almost all the mares chose red. Obviously tops can still use condoms on red-hooded mares, and strictly-speaking, those mares have to take it. I don’t remember seeing/feeling any condoms when I was there. I would love to try a Horsefair party in Berlin, where apparently the rules are enforced much more strictly. The downside of this is that the rules regarding looks and body type are also enforced more strictly… and at my age, I don’t know if I want to travel all the way to Berlin, just to be turned away at the door by some snotty stable hand for being ‘too old’.

That’s funny, @Beardybarrowboy: you describe exactly my own douching routine when I play at the Vault on naked nights! I’ve always thought I was the only one who bothers to stick a bulb douche in their sock- I’ve never seen anyone else do it, and have often been a bit self-conscious about it. Glad to hear that someone else does this too! I have stopped bothering with the bottle of water thing now, though: some places (Union, for example) can be funny about you taking in bottles, and I’ll be buggered if I’m gonna fork out 4 quid for one at the bar. These days I fill the bulb directly from the toilet. “Eeeeeww,” I hear you say… but after all, given what else I’m taking up my arse at these places, I think that toilet bowl water is least of my worries!

It’s an endless source of irritation to me that UK saunas don’t have douching facilities, while continental ones do. Sweatbox installed some in its recent refurb, but I’m not sure if they are currently working. I usually clean out before I leave home, but because I have to travel quite far to get to a sauna, I always take a bulb douche with me for a quick ‘refresh’ in one of the toilet cubicles when I arrive. Imodium helps.

In London, Pleasuredrome and Sweatbox are probably best suited to your needs. They’re the largest ones, and although they cater to all ages, they tend to be more popular with the younger crowd (particularly Sweatbox). Some of the others, like Locker Room and Sailors, seem to attract a loyal following of (usually) older regulars, which can give them a great ‘community’ vibe, but which might not be what you are looking for. Pleasuredrome and Sweatbox serve a more transient population, which means you won’t feel so out of place as you might do in a small local sauna.

I too think that sex is precious, but that has led me to a different position. Love is also precious, but few would advocate that we ration it on that basis. Perhaps these younger tops also respond well to the straightforwardness of us older bottoms. Let’s compromise: what about ‘quite a lot’?

I think a lot of this has to do with subconscious power play in the top/bottom dynamic. Tops are supposed to be the dominant partner, and in general it’s easier to dominate guys who are younger, less experienced than yourself. So lazy or not very confident tops will naturally gravitate towards younger bottoms rather than taking on the challenge of dominating an older bottom. The ones who specify ‘no over 30’ or whatever generally fall into this category, and should be avoided at all costs. The flip side of this is that there are many confident tops in their 20’s or early 30’s who positively enjoy the challenge of dominating an older daddy, and that’s the reason why older bottoms will often attract more tops from this younger age group than from their own. I think the trick to attracting this better class of top is to be confident in your own manner: don’t overplay the sub thing, let them think they are breaking you down with their irresistible charm and cunning. A simpering 40- or 50 year old bottom is a bad look: no-one wants to fuck that, where’s the challenge? Be cocky, be forward, be confident. Of course, there will always be those who really do have a visceral aversion to older guys. You can spot them quite easily: they’re the ones who in sex clubs and saunas will go to bizarre lengths not to even see you. There’s nothing you can do about that, but the good news is that they are quite a small minority, maybe 10-20 percent?
