In the traditional, accepted meaning of the word "addiction", neither do I. That said, the feeling of freedom to be the man we were born to be, actually living out our most sexual fantasies, is a behavior that can indeed become addictive. I use zero drugs (other than a medical prescription and PrEP), yet I look forward to spending weekend nights in the fuckjoints tremendously. In that sense, hitting the fuckjoints on the weekends is a (perhaps semi) addictive behavior, without the physical dependency that chemicals induce.

I can only reply with my own thoughts on the issue: Life is complex, choices are many, and some irreversible. I fully understand that a disease can be transmitted as a result of following our sexual needs, and taking whatever steps are available to prolong decent health while also choosing to deal with risks of the kind of sex that makes fucking worthwhile as acceptable. The only caveat I have, is that the choice be an informed one. So I had a small group over for the 4th (it was my turn), two of which have been + for years, two not. Both of the + guys have been on meds and remained healthy all this time, one "retired" from having sex, one only became more voracious when he converted. One of them reported some potentially good news, in that in the fairly near future, some kind of inoculation to "cure" hiv is in the works. That's only hear-say, but it would be reasonable that medical folks have been working on it since hiv first came along. My only hope is that all of us put in the intellectual work to decide. Some guys sero-converted without actually "chasing". Some guys chased/are chasing, and that's their own decision to make. Some guys become so afraid they simply deny themselves any raw sex at all. Point: it's up to each guy to figure out what he needs most, and no one can offer judgement of other guys decisions. Hopefully, we can inform ourselves to our best ability, reflect on what's crucial to our existence, what isn't, and proceed without guilt or regret. We can only decide what's most important for our own selves, reflect on any/all available information, and make our lives - in all it's various definitions - count.

Those of us that have experienced a few Presidential elections through the years, have always heard words to the effect that "THIS is the most important election in decades", issued in Stentorian Tones by respected politicians, maybe to the point that we simply tune these types of claims out automatically. We think "yeah, yeah, same old rhetoric, we've heard it so many times before ..." This time however, it's actually the case. The enemies of Freedom for All have been planning this kind of putsch for decades, and now - in their myopic eyes - it's a "last chance" election to destroy the institutions of our nation once and for all. We see what the Heritage Foundation has wrought with the Supreme Court. We see examples of repressions advancing in States across the nation. While the underlying reasons for this bitterness in our misguided fellow citizens may vary from person to person, the fact is they've been working towards the Totalitarian Agenda for years, quietly, behind the scenes, and they see this upcoming election as their Final Battle with secularism, humanistic government, those who believe differently from themselves. They've tried and failed in countless half-measures, and now they're going Full Frontal in their assault on what the United States has stood for since the Civil War. I'm not saying our Government is perfect, in some areas, far from it. I'm saying it's the best chance humanity has to advance, to make the idea of Government by all the people, for all the people, instead of a ruling class dominating everyone else that has surfaced in centuries. When the intellectually lazy, indifferent to anything other then their own smallish notions, listen to false prophets, the Noble Experiment is threatened. Far from perfect, yet still holding hope for improving the lot of all, our Democracy is (as the benighted constantly rail against), the best hope humankind has yet come up with. John Oliver has been using the construct of comedy for some time now to help us wipe the film of hatred from our eyes, and I hope that everyone laughs first, and then takes his message to heart. Well !!! My first thought was, how interesting that these kids even accepted the notion of fluidity enough to even try it. My second thought was, there are one or three of them that aren't all that concrete in their heterosexuality in the first place. They look like mostly high-school age, and if this is a fairly broad sampling of how guys interact with each other at that age, there's actually hope for the world on the horizon. In the places I go to fuck, sometimes I do see a wedding ring on a guy. Not that I'm looking for one - I'm not - and I don't really care if they're married or not. My other half and I used to go to a gym over on Lincoln Ave, and we both got marginally better physiques out of it. Shortly after joining, that gym moved to Steamworks though, and we continued to go, but for some reason the physiques didn't continue to improve. 😂

I haven't taken part in this voting exercise yet, since try as I might, I'm not able to come up with a viable definition of what gay "culture" actually is. Wikipedia offers a wordy, bland, vague definition of "gay culture", rather amorphous and unsatisfying, and glosses over the practice of prostitution within "gay" life. Even the Oxford definition - "a person, in particular a woman, who engages in sexual activity for payment." is clearly (at least to my eyes) somewhat exclusive (and therefore a suggestion of denigration) of this activity. We all know what "prostitution" entails, but what do we mean by "gay culture"? Relatively few gay men or gay women engage in the business of prostitution, and when they do it is usually associated with pecuniary needs that cannot be met in any other (as perceived by that individual) way. I don't see how we can offer perceptions of that particular business endeavor without knowing more about the reasons the individual engages in it. That would apply to both genders, and equally. While prostitution has existed for millennia, and in virtually every "culture" that has or continues to exist, I don't see any particular characteristic that separates us (gay men) from every other "culture" regarding the OP.
