You can still have lots of sex in saunas. I am poz but if I wasn’t I would still be having sec in saunas.

I agree. If I were neg I would be jumping through every hoop to get a drug that would keep me from contracting a chronic illness. Most poz men would not want it given the chance.

@cheatingjock I do not think it is a cost thing as prep is available at no cost to the user(s) that choose to use it. Just started prep 4 days ago myself without any side affects as of yet. In my case I waited to start as I was aware that my partner may think the worse of me.

I am poz, I have been for almost twenty years.  I started taking meds 2-3 years after the diagnosis.  I have been fortunate, there have been no illnesses nor other problems.  The only way it has affected me is in my being cautious of who I fuck.  I make sure they know what they are getting into.  I don't use drugs, smoke, or drink a lot.  I do not exercise like my doctor says I should.  In general my health is as good as it was before I turned poz.

For me being poz is about managing a condition.  It takes some time, but it does not detract from the rest of my life.  Being poz does not define me.  Being the man I am and my character defines me.

That being said, I enjoy this site, I really enjoy the chem sex fiction and the men on here sharing stories and in general being nasty kinky raunchy gay men!

I’m negative and will probably always be negative since my husband is also negative. I secretly wish that I could get pozzed, but I just can’t bring myself to cheat on my husband. I'm poz on meds. Infected 15 years ago before PrEP was available. I know who knocked me up but not that time he fucked me, It was an anonymous fuck by a gorgeous man with a huge dick. No talk of status or condoms.   Got the fuck flu about 3 weeks later and tested poz a few months later. Since I tested relatively close to my infection date I had a good CD4 count and a moderate viral load.  Started meds immediately and was undetectable within a few months.  If PrEP were available then I would have been on it. Luckily I have had no issues with HIV. I just take my pill every day.

I'm poz, not on meds. I had an encounter in late February of this year that led to my conversion.  I currently do not have plans to rush getting on meds.

I am poz - since at least 1985 (first ELISA test was available that year). THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS at least. Possibly 40 or more as I could have been infected as early as the late seventies when I was in my mid-teens.

I am now 60, have a husband for 33 years who remains neg to this day, we have had since our second date in January 1990 a fully sexually open relationship (our monogamy is emotional monogamy). We met after each of us lost our first partners, his to Testicular Cancer and mine to AIDS. We met with him total top and me topping most of the time, hence the open sexual part of our relationship - our emotional losses stripped out useless emotions like jealousy and resentment since you learn to value life and not sweat the small stuff, and with us being top and top/vers being open allowed us to play with others together and on our own when the other was occupied. It relieved a lot of our friends who cried "foul!!" about two tops getting into a relationship and taking two tops off the already scarce market... 🙂

With my hubby working evenings - especially Fridays and Saturdays - and me working day-times during the week, I had all of the 90s in NYC free on Friday and Saturday night, and my other half actually preferred that I go to a sex party, a sex club, a bathhouse or an ABS rather than go to a bar and have some guy I was picking up for just sex get the wrong idea thinking he might get more than a sexual encounter from me.

For a while, I did the safe sex thing at such get-togethers, but by later in the 90s after some convincing from porn star and fuck buddy Scott O'Hara, I sought out other poz guys and poz get-togethers for sex and started barebacking and getting barebacked again with my poz pals and it was a great joy in a period that saw little joy in our community, as I watched so many friends, associates, co-workers and sex partners lose their battle and die before the IDS/HIV cocktail came along.

I was fine for a good long time from my infection - but by late 1998 my CD4 count had dropped below 120 despite never having had any AIDS-related infections. I went on meds at that point, and within two months was undetectable. I have been ever since - except for two times when I was put on a drug-holiday for a month or two by my doctors as part of medical studies seeking to understand why I was infected but never had any associated opportunistic infections and was surviving for so long - not sure exactly what they revealed to the researchers other than finding I had one copy of a gene found in people of Irish, Scottish and Scandinavian heritage that seems to indicate resistance (a friend from Ireland, who has never NOT barebacked, has copies of the gene from both parents and is effectively immune).

I'm now 60. I know I am lucky to have had such little harm to my lifestyle or health from an infection that has killed countless others. And I will admit that being poz oddly made my sex life better when it came/comes to extracurricular sex allowing me to breed and be bred in sex venues that involve other poz guys, and I've sure had my share of amazing sexual experiences as anyone who has read my blog on this site knows! And weirdly, I've outlived 3 HIV doctors, none of whom passed from HIV.

The downside is I am a slave to the pharmaceutical companies for the rest of my life - the HIV meds somehow never seem to pass into generic form and are staggeringly expensive as is my health insurance, at one point the almost $20,000 per YEAR out of pocket that I had to pay for health insurance and co-pays almost bankrupted my husband and I, thank god for Obama-care that dropped it to $4000 a year for a while, though it's crept back up to and just recently passed the old rates in March of 2023 - though I've swallowed my pride and allowed myself to accept some assistance from the State of New York on both Insurance Premiums and Pharmaceutical Co-pays.  I had not had any adverse reactions to my meds from 1999 through about 2018 - when I was forced off a cocktail that had worked fine for 13 years by the INSURANCE COMPANY, not my doctors because they somehow wanted me taking newer meds that were more expensive and damaged my heart. I was taken off that med and the one I am on now does have one side effect - I had a set of washboard abs through my 40s and still had some definition in my early 50s, but since taking this, I now have a bit of "hard belly abdominal swelling" which saddens me.

Given a choice, would I chose to get infected again? Probably not, especially if there were PreP type meds available, but I will admit, that I seem to have found the most extensive silver lining to my condition that one could find. And I know that I am very very lucky, for which I am very very thankful.

Neg - I have PrEP, but as my fun is not regular, I use the Emergency Regime (2+1+1+1) - and that works for me. I’m protected - but my kidneys are not at risk.
