I had never encountered many trans/reassigned people in sexual situations prior to moving to Portland, but they are very much part of the scene here. I had encountered cross-dressers before in bookstores, but the bathhouses that I frequented in Denver where I started going to them both prohibited cross-dressing outside of the rooms. The issue with cross-dressing in a male-only space is that it forces a sense of the female into the space. The culture does not (by and large) recognize fishnet stockings and garter-belts as items associated with males and masculinity; indeed, even for females such things are usually associated not just with females, but with feminine sexuality.
