You do realize BootmanLA was paraphrasing someone else right???
-
If Joe drops out of the race, the reaction is very much tied to HOW he drops out and who he proposes as a replacement. It would be a horrible idea to drop out and leave a vacuum.
-
Well indeed that is the R now. I don't think the Rs are even aligned with any part of the GOP. They just absconded with the R name...
-
No they will happily kill us gay guys too.
-
Unfortunately we don't know if it is connected to his politics. We won't likely find out for months or more; long after our squirrel or clownfish news cycle has moved on to the next big thing.
-
Yep I see that @Knotme. While honestly I think a Kamala/Hakeem ticket would be a nice balance; I see enough of that "built in" racism in some of my peers that has me thinking a Harris/Kelly ticket would pick up those scared white voters. And man, a woman of color president and a former astronaut vice would be a pretty compelling ticket.
-
Obviously @hntnhole we'll see as all this unfolds. You know I thought I was wrong once..... But I was mistaken. LOL Honestly Joe might truly want to be a President who dies in office as his legacy. I can understand that as a relative handful die in office. Man I miss the old GOP so much. This was before the two parties became warring factions. Yeah people had strong feelings; but we separated feelings from fact better then than we do now.

A little seedy adds to the atmosphere; overly seedy not so much... 🙂

That's truly a shame @Guy4GuyCoSpgs. By definition this particular forum is the POLITICAL forum and politics are diverse. There are a lot of other forums within Breeding Zone that pertain to things you might find more interesting. To leave the site because one small part tweeks your soft self seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Good luck to you though on whichever site you find that works for you.

Those metrics aren't relevant anymore. When we are behaving in an either/or world, the kid was not a Democrat by any stretch. How he manifest as R might inform why he took the shot, but he was some flavor of R. I know a number of MAGA individuals who don't fly flags. But it does seem to be the more visible political indicator locally. T signs or none; and frankly, not a whole lot of T signs.... I suspect there is a huge hidden pool of old GOP folks around me who see Trump for who he is and won't vote for him. They might be holding their noses (so to speak and hearkening back to Hillary times), but will vote D president while otherwise voting R. I've seen that trend before in local elections - one delight of being a poll worker and sorting the paper ballots at the end of the night. We see where the marks are and get a pretty good view of some odd bedfellows (as it were).

Does it really matter? R's have a beef with immigrants even though because we are US citizens, we are immigrants or at least have immigrant genetics within us. I believe the R's just seek to reduce the US population.
-
I've been pondering our current; today July 16th. The R path is well defined and I hope most get directed to Project 2025 and get pretty familiar with it before voting. That's the Republican platform right now - and IMO miles apart from the GOP of pre Reagan. The Dems, I hope (more than believe) are grappling behind the scenes before a cacophony of opinion floods them, with a better option. This isn't to say I am not happy with Biden's work. I definitely am. Are all aspects of US life perfect? They never are. But there are plenty of metrics to measure success and he has done well. But given the deficits Joe has demonstrated now multiple times; that isn't going to improve month over month for four years. If we elect him I believe he will die in office; and maybe that is in part his motivation. Funerals of sitting presidents are historically quite the events. And given his life; maybe that would be good. But I don't see him uniting the country. It would be foolish at least to not make the ticket Kamala and ???. And before Joe steps off the race, they need to work out ???. Kamala Harris and Mark Kelly might be a great team up. Friends of mine float the idea of Hakeem and Kamala; and I honestly have no issue with that notion; but I think more voters would jump on a Harris/Kellly ticket and given the narrow band available; they need to consider a ticket to bring in the most YES votes. So my hope is they're working on this; and that perhaps at the start of the convention Biden does a well orchestrated hand-off.
-
@BootmanLA Obviously this is speculation, but something in me believes Joe has reviewed the tapes and realizes how horribly he did. But to step out without a plan in place isn't something I would ever envision him doing. Thus, I imagine he and the D party are working behind the scenes to work out the next act. Perhaps a Harris/Kelly ticket which would check a lot of boxes. Biden could open the convention by pulling out of the race with a Harris/Kelly (as in astronaut Mark Kelly) ticket. What I don't want to see is all this played out as the media does so horribly. Just make a choice, announce and go.

Certainly a plausible speculation and everything else remained equal. But that doesn't happen. I can certainly see the property owner perspective though. The value of the community I live in is determined by the sum of the assessed value of the properties within. Our borrowing capacity is largely determined by that value. Non property owners are simply enjoying the benefits of that value. True though; they are paying rent on whatever contractual schedule was set and that is, in essence, paying for the property. What I am getting at though is that property owners title to that property is given by the government. No government, ownership is dissolved. Marriages, Contracts of all sorts, our motorcycles and cars... Everything is at the behess of ones government; and the extent to which other governments respect that. With no government we don't own anything... So ripping up the constitution, as 45 seems hell bent to do; means he gets to own everything and it is up to us to fight that within the social structure at that time. @BootmanLA where is your podcast??? 🙂 😉 😉

Good the insurance companies are paying attention to roofs. Here in Wisconsin I was informed that the classis three tab singles popular 30 years ago are no longer insurable after this year. Setting an arbitrary deadline on roofs is insane. Obviously some are doing that, but roofs have measurable wear and thus physical metrics are a better way to go.

Right now we're in the media storm. Lot's to settle out and the big summer R show starting tomorrow here in Wisconsin. Let's give it a week and then see how things appear....
-
@ejaculaTe the operative words in your post being "In general". That doesn't mean charges can't be brought elsewhere...

Actually I am glad I started paying attention to all the candidates from an early age. I started as a voter registrar and election judge in my early 30's; and could never side with any party as completely as I could with individuals. To me, parties are more like sports team names; and running a government isn't a sport. Or shouldn't be. There are a number of things to be done; not just the one the media goes on about. Some essential for the operation of our nation/state/county/municipality; some truly to advance society collectively. Unlike what used to be normal races; both candidates were capable to honoring our constitution; and advancing solutions MOST of us want, rather than just half. And I submit we get to half because we are rooting for our cause rather than ALL the causes. I know in local government we've been able to work out compromise which serves most. Joe is pretty good at compromise. But he is only six years older than I am; and I would prefer to see him mentor younger political people. The other thing in our current public discourse is to encourage Joe to step away rather than encourage Joe to prefer to endorse a slate where he can mentor (as he has Kamala) others. I'm not hearing of "the alternative slate"; and at this point in the race; clarity on Joe vs ??? is pretty essential to me. What I hope is happening is that behind the scenes the party is working on that slate so that, perhaps, AT the Dem convention Joe might start by stepping away; and put forth a slate. And then the delegates work on that vs ??? if they see fit. I would rather it happen then than in the media before then. (after all, isn't the convention purportedly where the party selects it slate?).

I am retired, and love living in Wisconsin. Generally cooler temps (perhaps too cold for some but for me; 65 degrees is a perfect temp). We've abundant potable water here and having lake Michigan to the east tends to attenuate nasty storms. When I look around the nation from here; while perhaps on a blizzardy winter day those places appeal to me; we have less crappy natural events here than the majority of other places. So while a winter AZ visit (or NO, or the Island House in the keys) is a pleasurable warm up; I don't have to deal with the intense heat, fires, flooding elsewhere. That said, I discourage anyone from even thinking about relocating to Wisconsin...
-
While I appreciated that President Biden gave a press conference on July 11, honestly it was painful to watch. I am hopeful that at the Dem convention Joe will step down and be ready with a whole slate so that coming out of the convention we can have a more organized Democratic party (recall please I dislike parties but they are what we have to work with).
-
Yes that's been my POV as well, and mostly still is. But I could see the payoff being political. Get rid of the cooperative cop to gain access to a more corrupt one. Some of this absurd national BS is permeating local governments as well.

If I feel like I need to educate, I'm going to.... If he doesn't like me after, so what?

Of course, thanks. (slaps myself upside my head for not thinking of that... Too little coffee today???). -
Indeed, the trajectory towards authoritarian governments globally is on the upswing. Perhaps an understandable reaction to increasing strife and famine as climate change predictions of 20 years ago are manifest today. The warnings then really were "more extreme" weather, not necessarily warmer. While we see bad weather days throughout the 160 or so years we've been tracking weather facts. From my POV what I am experiencing now vs half a century ago are much larger storms, more frequent; and simultaneously. The classic fires and floods are more frequent and more severe. Many metrics are clearly on the upswing year over year now vs "every few years". Is our base human mentality to have a king who promises to take care of us as they know best?

While more often than not the candidates I vote for in state and federal positions are Democrat more than Republican. For my county elections I've little choice but to vote for Republicans, so it comes down to "which one?". To the credit of those forming my village; parties are not allowed in our elections. My wish (and yes, I know unlikely) is that we could remove parties altogether. Ultimately we are voting for a person to do a job. And a focus on who that person is and what their pattern of decision making is would, ideally, be how we make our choices. (Even grade school Jim didn't understand why it mattered that John Kennedy was the "pretty one").
